At Imam Malek's community's annual meeting in Stockholm on March 26, 2016, an expert committee was established, consisting of imams, lecturers and academics with extensive experience in religious and societal work. Their task was to review and revise Imam Malek's vision and goals (the Basic Document), as well as to facilitate dialogue between faith, tradition and modern society, with a focus on unity and brotherhood.
The new Basic Document defines the role of the council and Imam Malek's association in Sweden, as well as clarifying their principles, methods and objectives. The Basic Document is based on Islamic tradition and ethics, with a focus on values such as unity and brotherhood, while also taking into account the Swedish society's uniqueness and emphasizing the importance of active citizenship. The aim of the Basic Document is to strengthen ties between Muslims and Islamic organizations, as well as to promote positive social development.
After a thorough process, the new Basic Document was unanimously approved at the annual meeting in Stockholm on July 1, 2017, according to the following sections:
Islam is a universal religion that has contributed to enriching European culture. The growing Muslim presence in Sweden represents this long Islamic tradition, which is reflected in the increasing Muslim population in the country.
We strive to strengthen trust and encourage friendly relationships, mutual respect and cooperation between Islamic organizations and other institutions in the Swedish society.

God says in the Quran: "Remember God's favor upon you, and the covenant He has made with you when you said, 'We have heard and we obey.' Fear God! God knows what is in human hearts." (Quran 5:7)
We see Islam as a continuation of the message of previous prophets, with Muhammad being the final prophet. The Islamic message is universal and applies to all people, regardless of background or time period. We believe in equality and respect everyone's right to think freely and make their own choices.
We follow the original sources of Islam in our understanding of the religion, and distinguish between divine law (Sharia) and human interpretation of this law (Fiqh).
We value women's dignity and oppose objectification. We encourage decent conduct in clothing, behavior, and communication.
